Reading Habit

Reading books, what a fun. Many people dont follow reading every day. I read some where "A person who don't read is similar to a person who doesn't
know to read". Now why am I writing something about reading which the whole world knows. Here I am going to challenge myself for two things.
1) To read continuosly for 18 hours in a day.
2) To read more than 20 books this year.
I was never a book lover in my school or college days. I never bothered to pick any book. You can assume I was a lazy bum or a person who never took
reading seriously. Later one day when I was inspired by some of my friends I started to read extensively. I can just thank my friend for that .I had even
written a peom about reading in my poems section or you can see it here also. I may have not read many books till date, but I can say whetever I have read was worth
reading and pleasure. You can find the list of books which I have read till date here.
Poem on reading
There is something I am here to say about books ...
Everytime it forces me to get into its hooks ...
They are like my close mates ...
Giving knowledge in huge plates ...
Every night we talk with each other...
As all the day we didnt bother...
Life was in darkness when I didnt read...
I am surprised how I managed to tread ...
Knowledge of authors and books I was poor...
Great heights was sustained from me to soar...
I laughed at all who used to read...
It was making me a useless bead ...
My friends read books with vigour...
Which didnt enthuse even for a page tour...
If reading habit would have blossomed earlier...
I would have been a wonderful scholar...
Then once I was destined to meet...
Someone like an angel who was very sweet...
I met the friend as an unknown...
Later i wondered how much I missed one...
The friend never said anything about reading...
But I caught something which friend was meaning...
Many new people from imaginary world was able to meet me...
In the form of some lively pages fume...
I started loving books for the first time...
My deep thanks to the friend every time...
Every inch of my friend is an inspiration...
Who will bless me to read books as running marathon...
What I do regulary so that I don't let boredom or distraction fade away my habit of reading.
1) Reading time - I make sure I set aside atleast 30-60 minutes everyday for reading either it be early in the morning or in late nights.
But I make sure I read without fail. You just have to believe in yourself that reading is also like a parft of your life like eating, bathing or sleeping.
2) List the books - Listing the books and setting personal milestones is important if you really are interested in reading and want to
keep the reading bug in you alive. Listing the books means, maintain the list of books which you have read till date, the date you started and you finished,
so that you do not repeat reading the same one again. Keep a wish list of books which you want to read.
3) Read one at a time - This is very important. I have seen people how people manage to read multiple books at a time. I don;t know
how they manage , but I certainly found it difficult. I believed in focussing on a single book at a time. Complete a book and then move on the new one.
4) Don't skip - I have freinds who skip some paragraphs so that they can complete the book in a hurry. Make sure you read every
single word from the book, then it is of any worth. If you are just interested to know the end and the summary of the book by fast reading or skipping the
book, donot read else read the reviews or the summary from the magazine of internet, why to waste unnecessary time by pretending to read a book if
you are not reading the book properly.
5) Read alone - I am not telling that you shut yourself in your bathroom and read the book. But read the book in such a place where
there is practically no disturbance. Never read a book by sitting in front of the TV or listening to songs ( Only music will do but with no lyrics, but that too in
very low volume). Avoid the places where many people manouver, your living room. Read it alone in peace so that you can enjoy the whole process of
reading.
6) Get nice books - I have no right to term any book as good or bad. Every author gives his 100% in writing a book. Kudos to the
authors for their time and involvement in making of a book. By being a reader I always look for books which interests me, or which will teach me a lesson
, or a book which will make me smile . It is upto you to decide which book is good for you and which will satisfy your reading hunger.
7) Discuss - It is always necessary to discuss what you have read with your freinds, relatives or even a stranger(if he/she is interested)
. It will help you share and gain more from your discussion with the world. Sharing will increase what you have,it will never decrease.
8) Write it - As soon as you complete the book make it a point to write it down. Write whatever you feel like about the book. About the
characters, what you learnt from the character, what you hate in the book and many more things which your mind can decipher. In the end you can review
and blog it. (I never did that and I was advised by many readers about that and I will surely do it) .If possible even post your reviews to the author and the
publisher. They may get motivated to improve their writing in the other book .
Read books and feel as if you are having a conversation with the author through the characters which will become alive through your reading in your
brain. I am sure when you read and complete a book you will say "wow what a feeling". When I completed my first book a small drop of tear rolled down
my eyes. It was sheer joy for me to complete a book. I can just promise, reading is such an habit which will make you have fun and learn by sitting in one
place. I started to read and I am reading till date and it has given more than pleasure. It is rightly said books are mans best friends.
Enjoy reading and have fun.
Moral : Reading has many advantages other than just pleasure.
